Dyke storytelling in queer spaces is vital. In queer spaces, we are free of the heteronormative pressure to explain ourselves. Led by desire, we can lean in and trust our bodies and each other's bodies.
THE MOUND is a brand new fabulous queerspace on Dharawal Country (the Gong) for our LGBTQIA+ (and friends) community. It is located 20 minutes south of Wollongong CBD. It is safe, inclusive & incredibly bent.
When queers gather, we form pockets of resistance. Founded in deep personal acceptance, our communities are sanctuaries. These sanctuaries are lighthouses that illuminate the many ways colonisation, capitalism, patriarchy, religion, transphobia, and rising right-wing forces are all connected.
We gain the perspective of the outsider. We garner support from each other to stay strong and healthy. We make time to gather and share personal stories of reverence and love, time to gather and talk and dance and make music and walk and make sure we stay connected to our soft bellies and strident strong thighs. We make time by putting down our screens and facing each other in the flesh. Time to immerse ourselves in our culture.
Sharing the beauty and splendour of queer lives is just as relevant today as it was in the 1990s when Wicked Women first celebrated the diversity of sexual expression in our community. At Wicked Words you will hear from dykes, trans and non-binary guys who will share their challenges, awakenings, sexual exploits, erotic encounters, and queer adventures.
We are confronted by thousands of images and stories
of hetero propaganda every day.
Our culture is drenched in it. Surely we deserve to have the occasional antidote.
